Curtis Lovell has created songs from four of Whitman’s Calamus poems. You can now enjoy films and photographs of Curtis performing them live at the Burchfield Penney Art Center and Ujima Theatre, accompanied by the multi-talented Luis Montijo. The films were done by Steve Rosenthal; the still photography is by kc kratt.

Curtis is a musician, actor, director and entrepreneur born and raised in Buffalo. Curtis has directed plays for Ujima Company such as Stew and Cullud Wattah and played major roles in many plays, including The Color Purple, while also co-directing 45 films of Whitman poems for the Calamus Project.
